Parenting Tips: Do’s and Don’ts

// February 6th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Baby

parenting-book Throughout the pregnancy, we have bought and been given several baby books. What To Expect, Belly Laughs, The Expectant Father, Skinny Bitch: Bun In the Oven just to name a few. While each of these books have great information in them, there are some of the every day things they just don’t explain.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, what better way to explain the everyday items of parenting than in pictures. Enjoy!

A Family That Blogs Together, Stays Together

// February 5th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Baby, Marriage

As our pregnancy nears the end, our Friday nights are no longer our usual Friday nights. Friday night has always been (like many couples) a night to go out to dinner and spend the evening around the town as a way to unwind from the work week. Now, at week 37,  we spend our evenings around the house with our (read: my) feet up.

I take my place on the couch, center cushion. Husband takes one of our pillows and puts it on the coffee table and I rest my potato shaped feet on them. He convinced me to let him take a picture of my feet yesterday but after seeing it, I refuse to post it. Imagine your feet, shaped like potatoes, stuffed into a pair of these shoes all day. I think I’ll just wear my slippers to work from here on out.

Here’s the problem I’ve found with putting my feet up on the coffee table. It seems like I have to pee every 30 minutes. So I put my feet up on the coffee table and after 30 minutes the baby moves his head around and all of the sudden I feel like I’m going to pee my pants. In my effort to rush to the bathroom I forget that my knees have locked up and I can’t bend my legs to get them off the coffee table. I scream in pain while laughing at my predicament and usually Husband has to come over and help me slowly bend my legs. It’s only a matter of time before I don’t make it to the bathroom on time I’m afraid.

Tonight, while I had my feet propped up with the computer on my lap, Husband come over to join me on the couch. He brought his laptop with him and when I glanced over at his screen I realized we were both on our site getting ready to write up a blog. I had him snap this picture.

Pregnancy Do’s and Don’ts – Humorous Pregnancy Tips

// February 4th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Baby

pregnancy tipsWith all of the excitement and anticipation of the baby coming, it can really start to be stressful. I think we have everything ready for his arrival. Our hospital bags are packed, the car seats are installed in both cars, the nursery is done, the baby monitor is running and all the toys are put together and the list goes on and on. Every day we constantly go over the check list in our heads as we wonder, “What day is going to be the big day?”

So as we near the end of the pregnancy chapter (with only 3 weeks left) here are some Pregnancy Do’s and Don’ts that we ran across. These were good for a laugh. Hope you enjoy!

The Great Trade In Event @ Babies R Us

// January 29th, 2010 // No Comments » // Baby, Money

baby_moneyIf your a parent (or know someone who is or will be) that needs some baby supplies then now is a good time to go out and get them.

Babies R Us is holding another “Great Trade-In Event” and this time they have upped the discount to 25%. The premise is simple: Bring in an old car seat, stroller, travel system, high chair, play yard, toddler bed, bassinet or crib and exchange the old one for 25% off a new one. One of the great things about starting a parenting blog is that I’ve been able to find far more deals than I ever have before. The downside is we bought pretty much everything we needed before we started this blog. Meaning we shopped around and still paid full price (who does that anymore?!) for some items. Since we are out of luck on this one, we hope this helps you.

Our suggestion is call all your friends and relatives and see if they have any old baby items in the above categories that they will donate to you so you can trade in for new items. If you don’t know anyone with baby items then hit the flea markets and garage sales and see if you can find some of these items for the change in your pocket. If you find an old stroller and you pay $10 for it and you trade it in for a new one at $125, you’ll save  $31.25. Net profit = $21.25.

I will gladly spend $10 to make $20, that’s what we call a bargain. So get on the horn and see what kind of goodies you can wrangle up and get your baby some new stuff! The event ends Feb 20.

Buy yourself something nice to with all the money you save! Click the image below for the details.
